Review of sport activities 2016
In the year 2016, our club was put in the spotlight by various sport achievements. It were our ladies who have performed best in 2016.
But first the list of our 2016 club champions:
– Men: Nick Demoor
– Ladies: Caroline Walraet
– Senior Men: Olivier Buysse
– Senior Ladies: Loulou Tanghe
– Super Senior Ladies: Christine Navet
– Super Senior Men: Charly Debontridder
In 2016, Anne Joris was awarded the title of Belgian seniors champion. Anne Joris and Marie-Anne Toussaint were part of the Belgian team that finished second at the European Seniors Championship. Belgium lost in the final at hole 21!
Our senior ladies team won for the second year in a row the Belgian title, putting an end to seven years of Waterloo hegemony. Our ten star players have grown in a few years from individual players into a cohesive team, thanks to the coaching by François Gabias:
– Véronique Dermaux
– Titi Dielemans
– Axelle Goubau
– Anne Joris
– Larissa Khlundina
– Martine Maertens-Bolle
– Anne Sabbe
– Louise Tanghe
– Laurence Van Den Heuvel
– Caroline Walraet
About the men.
Our first team, playing in the second division under the leadership of Pascal Dryon, has lost the final on hole 20 against Ravenstein and misses the promotion to the first division. In 2017, working on the stress resistance of our young champions will be our number one priority.
Our seniors almost were the surprise of the season, but they were narrowly beaten by Waterloo in the final of the Belgian Championship. A stunning achievement when you consider how many top players Waterloo has got.
The club hereby wishes to thank all players who have defended the colours of our club.
It was decided to work on the follow-up of our younger members. They will be actively coached by our pro’s and we will organise youth competitions. A consultation meeting with the youth and their parents will take place on Sunday, January 15th at 11h00 in the bridge room.
Please note that the competition of Saturday, May 13th is offered and organised by our youth. After the prize giving ceremony, we foresee a dinner for the youth and their parents.
